Let's Celebrate!

Megan and I celebrated her first day with NO accidents! She's only had one each day, so I can't complain, all things considered, but still... She gets mini marshmellows for successful trips to the potty, so I upped the anti and made microwave smores with the large marshmellows. She was pretty excited until the melted marshmellow got on her hands! No, she did not get burned (for those of you who are apt to worry) but as you know it's a sticky mess! All in all, I wouldn't say smores are on her list of desirable treats! I guess that means more for me, huh!?!

"Hi, I'm Mary Poppins..."

Some girls are into the Disney Princesses, some are into Hello Kitty...Megan is majorly into Mary Poppins and there is nothing she likes better than to don her "Mary Poppins dress" and dance around to the music with someone who she has declared to be Burt...usually me! The dress, incidentally, is one of mine when I was her age. When I figure out how to do it, I'll post a video clip of one of her dances...too cute!

Happy Birthday, Ya Qin!

Yesterday was Megan's buddy Ya Qin's 3rd birthday. Unfortunately, she was in school and Megan had Gymboree, so we had to wait until today (which is our normal play-day) to get together. The girls had fun at Chuck E. Cheese and we even managed to get the sketching machine to capture this cute picture of the two of them before they started acting like sisters! We love you, Ya Qin!

Happy 3rd of July!

Our city has an annual 3rd of July celebration to commemorate Independence day. It's an afternoon and evening of fund raisers (yummy food provided by local churches and civic groups), music by the Master Chorale, and an incredible fireworks show. Megan really got into it this year. She loved the music...she would've been singing along had she known the songs, but was pretty happy playing air piano, trumpet and flute! And the "Booms" were amazing as usual. I seriously think it's the best show around. Happy 4th everyone!

What's a Mom to do?

What's a mom to do when her daughter is taking FOREVER to eat her lunch? Take pictures, of course! I have to entertain myself somehow. The one is the upper right is a classic "Stop doing that" look, by the way.

Old MacDonald had a Farm...

We didn't think we would see Lori and Ya Qin today, but got a great surprise this morning! The girls hadn't seen each other for a few weeks and really had alot of fun together. We started out at Burger King where the girls thoroughly enjoyed playing in the tunnels, then headed over to the little farm. It's just the right size and is free! What could be better? Thanks for playing with us today, Lori and Ya Qin!

Family Pictures

I love having pictures of our family hanging around the house. I think it's really important for Megan to see the people she's related to regularly in person and around our home. My family, until recently, all lived nearby, so that was easy. Unfortunately, David's family is scattered around the world and is therefore grossly under represented. So, we made a special effort while we were all gathered together this summer to get a good portrait taken of us all together. Here are the best two pictures of the bunch. I love this one of David and Megan together...so sweet!

From left to right starting with the girls, is Jenny (David's sister), Megan and I. The back row is Andrew (Jenny's husband), David, and Jim (David's dad and Megan's "Wampa")
